Thermo Fisher's Suzhou Plant, which covers 13,000 square meters and cost over $10 million, was put into operation in Suzhou New District Sept 25.

The plant created a manufacturing base for disposable bio-technological containers, the first of its kind deployed by Thermo Fisher in its Asian Pacific branches. The base can also handle the manufacturing, assembling and distribution of liquid transmission fittings and other targeted products.

The office and research sector of the plant, named the Suzhou Innovation Center, covers 800 sq m and is equipped with multifarious laboratories for chemical analysis, indoor and outdoor air testing, and electro-mechanical integration. Over the next three years, the center is planning to hire more researchers to develop more new products and promote technological innovation.

The plant will also add a production line for high-end air quality testing and analysis instruments, which will enable the localized manufacturing of continuous ambient particulate matter monitors.

The plant was designed to enhance Thermo Fisher's production and distribution capabilities in China, in order to provide better services to customers in the Asia Pacific region.

In 2011, Thermo Fisher set up an instrument branch in Suzhou New District, its largest plant in China, which focused on providing laboratory equipment and consumables, genetic synthesis and sequencing services, and in vitro diagnostic reagents.

Thermo Fisher is a US-based world leader in serving science, with annual revenue exceeding $25 billion. It is determined to enable its customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer, whether they are accelerating life sciences research, solving complex analytical challenges, improving patient diagnostics and therapies, or increasing productivity in laboratories.

Thermo Fisher has a global team of more than 75,000 employees who deliver a cutting-edge combination of innovative technologies and pharmaceutical services. The company has a list of industry-leading brands under its title, including Thermo Scientific, Applied Biosystems, Invitrogen, Fisher Scientific, Unity Lab Services and Patheon.
