From January to September 2020, the actual use of foreign capital in Suzhou New District (SND) totaled $475 million, the fourth highest among all districts and county-level cities administered by Suzhou.
The period saw 83 new foreign-funded projects, 45 of which were newly established while 38 gained capital increases. In total, they achieved contracted foreign capital of $598 million, a year-on-year growth of 39.88 percent.
The registered capital for domestic-funded projects totaled 36.16 billion yuan ($5.47 billion). There were 121 high-end industrial projects.
Fifteen projects each had foreign capital in actual use reaching $10 million, amounting $394 million in total, accounting for 82.88 percent of SND's total foreign capital in use during the period.
The number of domestic-funded projects with investment surpassing 100 million yuan was 24, four higher than the district's annual plan.
SND has also brought in a number of leading service projects, such as the United States retail giant Costco Wholesale and high-end supermarket Hema Fresh.
High-end domestic projects such as AKM Electronics Technology, Canadian Solar Inc, and Seiren Automotive Trim also increased their investment.
A total of 121 domestic-funded projects were newly settled in the district, 21 more than expected.
