Soochow University signed an agreement with Suzhou New District to set up its Sanitation & Environment Technology Institute in the district on June 18.
Fang Wenbang, Party secretary of the district, said that SND is the only State-level high-tech industrial park in Jiangsu province that emphasizes on the development of the medical device industry.
According to the agreement, SND will cooperate with the institute to develop a medical device industry based on "three centers and one platform" - a preclinical biocompatibility evaluation center, a preclinical effectiveness and safety evaluation center, a simulation application and promotion training center, and a R&D technology transfer platform.
The institute, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Soochow University, specializes in medical equipment testing, environment testing and food safety testing. It is a renowned domestic testing institute that has passed the medical device category audit by the Food and Drug Administration of the United States.
The total investment into the institute's construction for the first three years is no less than 100 million yuan ($15.48 million). Upon completion, the facility is expected to generate an annual income of 300 million yuan by 2026.
SND has been enhancing the development of its medical devices and biomedical industry in recent years. The district is home to nearly 200 patents and about 400 medical device companies with an output value of 20 billion yuan.
