Kang Nam-gu, a South Korean businessman who speaks Chinese with a Suzhou tongue and has been living and working in Suzhou for 15 years, recently won the city's 2021 Friend of Suzhou Merit Award.

Back in 2005, when Kang was a 36-year-old engineer working in his homeland, he decided to visit Suzhou for the first time. Kang witnessed China's promising outlook of the mobile communication industry in the country, which sparked his entrepreneurial drive.

After conducting in-depth research, Kang established the Suzhou RF Top Electronic Communications Co for the research and development, manufacturing and marketing of mobile communication products.

At first, Kang's factory covered an area of less than 1,000 square meters and had only five or six employees, but with unremitting effort, his research team made breakthroughs in core technologies and entered both Chinese and foreign markets. As his business began to expand, the company has evolved into a high-tech company and a gazelle company, and was recognized as a provincial enterprise technology center in Jiangsu.

As the vice-chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce in Suzhou, Kang is an active participant in events and meetings hosted by the Suzhou government. Moreover, he is enthusiastic about promoting Suzhou's favorable business environment and policies to Korean companies, thus attracting more Korean companies to invest and develop in Suzhou.
