Interest in ice-and-snow sports has rapidly risen in Suzhou in East China's Jiangsu province following the opening of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. People are flocking to skating rinks, spreading the fever for winter entertainment around the city.
Ice rinks across the city have also rolled out promotions to attract more visitors.
"Our rink normally receives around 2,000 skaters per day, but that number reached as high as 3,000 during the Spring Festival holiday. We have added extra service and safety staff to keep order on-site and ensure the safety of skaters," said Shen Long, a staffer at the Champion Rink Suzhou Center branch.
Wu Xunyan, manager of All Star Skating Club Shishan Longfor branch, said the rink was quite busy over the holiday, with footfall increasing 30 percent year-on-year.
"We hope, with the Winter Games in full swing, more and more children in Suzhou will fall in love with winter sports, taking the development of winter sports in the city to a higher level," Wu said.
