The Bamboo Garden, a classical garden designed by the Suzhou team for the International Horticultural Exhibition Floriade Expo in the Netherlands, recently won the event's Bronze Award of Outdoor Gardens and Garden Experience Award.

The garden is a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the Netherlands.

During the months-long exhibition at the Floriade Expo from May 18 to Oct 9, the 4,200-square-meter garden, the largest of its kind built by a foreign team, attracted more than 500,000 visitors from Germany, Denmark, Norway, and the United Kingdom.

The Suzhou Polytechnic Institute of Agriculture and Suzhou Garden Design Institute have taken charge of the design and management of the garden. It features a variety of interactive facilities allowing foreign visitors to learn Chinese culture in an immersive manner.

The garden has also won acclaim from many international dignitaries, including Annemarie Jorritsma, former deputy prime minister of the Netherlands and commissioner-general of the International Horticultural Exhibition Floriade Expo, and Bernard Oosterom, former president of the International Association of Horticultural Producers.

"In spite of the massive work involved in design and construction, the Bamboo Garden's six distinct themed sections and various flowers and plants have made it a wonder to behold," Oosterom said.
