The 2022 Suzhou Import Trade Promotion Conference and Forum for MNC Cooperation and Open Innovation opened in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, on Nov 7, local media outlets reported.
The event was also a celebration of the ongoing 5th China International Import Expo, which takes place in Shanghai from Nov 5 to 10.
During the conference, 90 foreign-invested enterprises and enterprises from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan that have made great contributions to the city's economic growth in 2021 received awards. Many of them said they would like to further increase their investment in Suzhou.
"We feel excited to receive this award as Suzhou is definitely the right place for Novartis to pursue research and development," said Sun He, general-manager of Suzhou Novartis Pharma Technology Co. The company was awarded the 2021 Suzhou Foreign-invested Company Award for Outstanding Contribution to R&D Innovation.
Statistics show that Suzhou is currently home to a total of 171 provincial and 227 municipal regional headquarters and functional agencies of multinational companies. Moreover, 30 MNCs obtained municipal recognition at the conference.
As of noon on Nov 7, the intended turnover of the Suzhou trade delegation realized at the CIIE had exceeded $1.38 billion, a huge increase from the total intended turnover of $1.22 billion last year.
