The results of Ten Years in Jiangsu, a photography competition for foreigners in Jiangsu, were announced recently. Khamsavanh Naphavong from Laos won the first, third and excellence awards for his works.
As a graduate of Soochow University, Naphavong used his camera to capture the beauty of Suzhou: The ancient streets are dotted with black bricks and gray tiles while blinking neon lights light up the billboards on skyscrapers. Traditional and modern elements coexist like a double-sided embroidery, a scene unique to Suzhou.

"There is a sharp contrast between the modern SIP and the ancient downtown area. Suzhou has developed with the times without dropping her classically beautiful features," Naphavong said.
Naphavong has returned to Laos and started an international trade company. He acts as a bridge between China and Laos and participates in cultural exchange activities between the two countries.
For example, he held a solo photography exhibition at the China Cultural Center in Laos last year.
"China covers a vast geographic area. Everybody knows the country, but many have never been there. I would like to encourage more people to visit beautiful Suzhou and China," Naphavong said.
