Su embroidery work collected by National Museum of China

Su embroidery work Millions of Soldiers Cross the Yangtze River by Zhou Haiyun of Zhenhu subdistrict, Suzhou New District, East China's Jiangsu province, was recently collected by the National Museum of China.

Su embroidery master Zhou led 10 embroiderers to take more than four months to complete the work, which was designed by painter Feng Jianqin, in 2021 in a bid to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

Three meters long and 1.45 m high, the embroidery was made with more than 1,000 colors of threads and over 10 kinds of stitches and reproduces the magnificent scene of millions of soldiers with a determination to win the war crossing the Yangtze River.

The National Museum of China is a first-grade museum in the country and collects, studies, and displays pieces that represent outstanding traditional Chinese culture.

The museum's collection of the Su embroidery is recognition for Zhou and her team. The museum had previously collected five Su embroidery works by embroiderers in the SND.

With a history of more than 2,000 years, Su embroidery is a national intangible cultural heritage item. SND's Zhenhu subdistrict is the main birthplace of Su embroidery and is reputed to be the hometown of Chinese folk art (embroidery).
