Hohhot -- capital city of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region -- and China’s national capital of Beijing have now made their local metro apps interchangeable, according to local officials.

They said at a launch ceremony on June 5 that the initiative allows residents of both to take metro rides more easily.

Hohhot residents can take a metro ride in Beijing with a QR code generated by Qingcheng Metro app, the metro app used to take a metro ride in Hohhot. The Yitongxing app used for the Beijing Subway can now also be used for the Hohhot Metro as well.

At present, the Qingcheng Metro App is applicable to all lines of the Beijing Subway that have been opened except the Beijing Suburban Railway Sub-center Line.

Passengers only need to click on the Beijing Electronic Metro Card on the homepage of the Qingcheng Metro app to generate a QR code for metro rides.

At present, the Qingcheng Metro app in Beijing only supports taking metro rides with a QR code generated by the app. It does not currently support mobile ticket purchases and on-site ticket collection, electronic fixed-term tickets and the Beijing Subway Daxing Line ticket packages service.

With the first high-speed railway linking Beijing and Hohhot launched in December 2019, the number of passengers traveling between the two destinations has increased.

Officials said the metro apps becoming interoperable will greatly facilitate the travel of passengers between the cities.
