Hohhot launches long-term care pilot project
Hohhot, in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been selected as one of the 14 long-term care pilot cities, according to an announcement co-released by the National Healthcare Security Administration and the Ministry of Finance.
Hohhot is the first and only city in the autonomous region to be included in the list.
Exploring the establishment of a long-term care insurance system is an important move by the Central Committee of CPC and the State Council in terms of responding to the aging population and improving the social security system.
At present, there are about 520,000 people aged over 60 in Hohhot city, accounting for about 21 percent of the city's registered population. According to statistics, there are about 12,000 severely disabled people in the city.
As the city's society continues to age, the number of disabled people will further increase, and the aging of the population will intensify. Accompanying this will be an increasing demand for long-term care of the disabled elderly.
Hohhot is to actively explore the construction of long-term care insurance-related systems, focusing on solving the problem of long-term care security for the disabled, and providing services or financial guarantees for the basic living of the long-term disabled and closely-related medical care.
