A total of 333 old residential areas in Hohhot, capital city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, are to be renovated and upgraded in 2021, according to local media reports.

The residential areas cover an area of 4.66 million square meters in Xincheng district, Huimin district, Yuquan district, Saihan district, and other counties and banners under Hohhot's administration, as well as in Jinchuan Industrial Park.

The planned renovations includes roof, road and infrastructure repairs, and upgrades to water supplies, drainage, gas supplies, heating pipe networks, waterproofing, street lights, and monitoring.

According to the city's housing and urban-rural development bureau, from 2011 to 2020, Hohhot carried out the comprehensive renovation of 1,993 old residential communities, which effectively improved the living conditions of residents.

From 2011 to 2019, Hohhot spent 5 billion yuan ($764 million) to comprehensively renovate 1,972 old communities covering an area of 27 million square meters, benefiting some 416,900 households and 1.2 million residents.

This year, Hohhot planned to renovate 21 communities in the city (12 in Xincheng district, two in Huimin district, four in Yuquan district, and three in Saihan district). This renovation work has now all been completed.
