Hohhot in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has implemented new regulations on wetland conservation, which came into effect on Oct 1, according to local media reports.
Hohhot currently boasts a total of 368 wetlands covering an area of 499,500 mu (33,300 hectares), accounting for 1.9 percent of the city's total land area. Wetlands are an important part of the city's ecosystem.
The regulations are expected to strengthen the protection of wetland resources and boost Hohhot's green development.
There are a total of 24 regulations related to the protection of wetlands, which focus on clarifying funding guarantees and management systems as well as the protection and management methods of wetlands, especially prohibited behaviors and related associated penalties.
Hohhot will continue to promote the management of landscape, forest, lake and grass systems, promote the protection and restoration of wetlands, and take measures to ensure the implementation of the new regulations.
