Hohhot's pollution measures improve air quality in region

The air quality in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, keeps improving in recent years as the city implemented efficient measures to curb air pollution caused by coal burning and dust.
In 2020, the city had implemented a special campaign to replace coal heating with central heating systems in 68,000 households in 157 villages. The campaign has continued this year to reform other 63,500 households in 57 villages receiving central heating systems. The plan expects to save 199,600 metric tons of coal, and reduce the emissions of sulfur dioxide by 1,908 tons and oxynitride by 668 tons.

Major breakthroughs in the fight against air pollution have been made so that people living the city can enjoy cleaner air and bluer skies. By Oct 6, the city reported 236 days of good air quality this year, which is 16 days more than last year.
The local government has made eliminating severe air pollution a priority. In the flowing five years, the city will continue to promote the campaign on replacing coal burning with clean energy and set up a comprehensive heating supply system to cover the whole city. Upgraded management will also control dust pollution by setting up a smart supervision platform to monitor construction and demolition sites.
