Hohhot, the capital city of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, plans to develop a commerce and service-oriented national logistics hub, according to the list of the first batch of national logistics hubs in the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25) that was recently released by the National Development and Reform Commission.
The logistics hub will be the only one of its kind in the autonomous region, and will make Hohhot one of the 25 logistics hub cities in the country.
Hohhot has currently opened some 200 air routes with an annual cargo throughput of 46,000 metric tons. The new airport that is currently under construction has a designed annual cargo throughput of 320,000 tons.
At present, 12 high-grade highways have been built in the city, and the Beijing-Hohhot High-speed Railway has been completed and is now open to traffic.
Hohhot's commerce service-oriented national logistics hub will be located in Yili Modern Smart Health Valley, and covers an area of 2,400 mu (160 hectares) with a planned investment of 6 billion yuan ($946 million).
The logistics hub is divided into two major areas, namely Yili Logistics Area and Tietong Logistics Area.
