Hohhot selected as China's 'giga-city'
Hohhot -- capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region -- was recently selected as one of the first 29 "giga-cities" in China, in a result announced on Dec 26 at the first Giga-cities Summit Forum held in the city of Qingdao, in East China's Shandong province.
China's gigahertz network, represented by 5G and gigabit optical network, has features such as large bandwidth, ultra-low latency and advanced reliability. It is widely regarded as being the important component and load-bearing base of the country's new infrastructure.
The construction of the international internet data channel in Hohhot's Horinger New Area was reportedly approved in 2021.
The implementation of the project is seen as being of great significance and far-reaching influence in terms of improving the high-quality development of Inner Mongolia and accelerating the industrial transformation and upgrading in the region's central and western regions.
Relying on the gigahertz network, the Inner Mongolia Communications Administration provided strong network support for creating a leading area for the construction and development of the digital economy.
To promote the coordinated development of Hohhot, Baotou, Ordos and Ulaanqab cities, the administration applied gigahertz network in energy, agriculture and in animal husbandry – as well as in electric power, medical treatment, education and other fields.
