Hohhot makes headway in becoming ideal city for work
Over the past three years, Hohhot, capital of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has made unwavering efforts to promote the three-year action plan for "city ideal for work" (2022-2024), achieving strong results.
During this period, the city created 184,600 new urban jobs, accounting for nearly one-third of the region's total and representing a 12-percent year-on-year increase. The number of college and university graduates choosing to work in Hohhot rose from 30,000 to 50,000 annually, while the number of rural laborers employed in urban areas grew from 310,000 to 360,000.
Building a distinctive, modern industrial system to expand employment opportunities is crucial to the city's goal of becoming a very attractive place to work.
In recent years, Hohhot's six major industrial clusters have attracted more than 1.16 trillion yuan ($158.22 billion) in investment, and a total of 950 key projects and 164 major industrial chain projects have been launched, generating 45,000 jobs.
The city now hosts 25 autonomous region-level service industry clusters, featuring six types of hubs: central business districts, commercial trade zones, tech entrepreneurship hubs, tourism and leisure areas, modern logistics centers, and cultural and creative zones. These clusters have attracted over 8,000 enterprises, creating 83,000 jobs.
Emerging industries, such as e-commerce, express logistics, and the platform economy, are flourishing, providing over 50,000 job opportunities and offering workers a wider range of employment options.
