Hohhot establishes nine sci-tech courtyards
In 2024, Hohhot added five new science and technology courtyards, bringing the total to nine. Another 61 are currently under application.
Science and technology courtyards are initiatives where university faculty, students, and researchers conduct scientific research in rural courtyards. They support agriculture, rural areas, and farmers and drive rural entrepreneurship through technological innovation.
The nine courtyards in Hohhot conduct research on oats, quinoa, goats, cattle, grapes, millet, potatoes, corn, and forage grass. These courtyards host nine chief experts, 47 other experts, and 43 graduate students.
From pilot projects to widespread implementation, Hohhot's science and technology courtyards introduce advanced agricultural technologies, cultivate high-quality crop varieties, and promote efficient farming and breeding models. These efforts significantly improve local agricultural production and enhance farmers' incomes through technical training programs.
By the end of 2024, the courtyards had established 23 experimental and demonstration bases covering 11,155 mu (744 hectares), with a total technology extension area of 131,000 mu, benefiting over 700 local farming households. They facilitated the adoption of eight patents, two technical regulations, 28 new technologies, and 106 new crop varieties. These initiatives have created over 600 jobs, nurtured more than 20 local talents, and attracted over 1,000 study visits and 3,000 agro-tourism visitors.
