As spring returns with warm sunshine and new life, schools across Hohhot are bringing their classrooms outdoors, offering diverse activities like intangible cultural heritage (ICH) experiences and sports programs.
At the Xinya Campus of Beiyuan Primary School in Xincheng district, the third annual Campus Kite Festival has been in full swing for the past two weeks. The event combines ICH skills and modern technology, allowing students to learn about culture in an engaging way.
During the ICH-themed classes, a kite-making inheritor demonstrated the full process of traditional kite crafting – including framing, pasting, and painting. Students then tried their hands at painting kite designs under professional guidance, experiencing the craftsmanship behind the four kite-making arts: framing, pasting, painting, and flying.
In addition, a professional science and technology team was invited to lead hands-on experiments, 3D-print kite frames, and fly drones in formation, offering a cross-disciplinary experience that helped students understand structural mechanics through hands-on assembly and testing.
On April 3, the 13th Kindergarten of Saihan district hosted an event to celebrate Qingming Festival. Children and their parents visited the Fengzhou Ancient City Museum, where the young participants unleashed their creativity with paintbrushes.
Some used vivid colors to depict blooming flowers, celebrating the fragrance of spring. Others painted tender green sprouts, symbolizing vitality and hope, while some even drew White Pagodas. Each painting was a heartfelt interpretation and blessing for the season.
