Hohhot sees tourism boom during May Day holiday
Hohhot's cultural and tourism market witnessed an explosive surge during the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5. On the first day alone, the city welcomed 608,500 tourists, a year-on-year increase of 26.98 percent. Tourism spending on the first day reached 434 million yuan ($60.1 million), up 22.95 percent, while the railway system also hit a single-day record for passenger traffic.
The momentum continued to build on May 2 as Hohhot received 637,000 visitors, with total spending rising to 472 million yuan. On May 3, the number climbed slightly to 637,600 visitors, contributing to a record-high spending of 476 million yuan.
A key driver behind this tourism boom was the wide array of diverse and engaging activities on offer. In Xiaocao Park, visitors enjoyed hot air balloon rides and a cultural tourism market, creating a festive and relaxed atmosphere.
On the Chilechuan Grassland, performances featuring the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle) and other traditional arts showcased the charm of ethnic culture.
At Daqing Mountain Wildlife Park, interactive experiences like animal feeding and family-friendly garden parties offered opportunities to connect with nature and spend quality time with children.
Meanwhile, at Saishang Old Street, live music performances and local delicacies provided a sensory feast, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the rhythms of culture and cuisine.
