This summer, Hohhot is accelerating its transformation through a data-powered industrial boom. The city's six major industrial clusters, including dairy, the digital economy, energy, and advanced manufacturing, now account for over 90 percent of total industrial output, reflecting a dynamic and integrated industrial ecosystem.

The green agri-processing sector is a key engine for Hohhot's growth. The city is home to China's only national dairy innovation center, which generated over 60 billion yuan ($8.4 billion) in output in 2024, accounting for 3.6 percent of the city's industrial growth. Leading enterprises like Yili are enhancing the entire dairy chain by investing in R&D, smart processing, and sustainable practices to propel the sector toward high-end, intelligent, and green development. Breakthroughs in probiotic preservation technology have improved viability by 10 million times in ambient conditions, thanks to coordinated efforts by 120 member institutions and thousands of researchers.

In the chemical sector, Inner Mongolia Jiutai New Materials Co has evolved into a key player in Hohhot's new materials cluster, transitioning from coal-based feedstocks to green, degradable polymers. The company's annual methanol capacity now exceeds 2 million metric tons.

The shift toward a green economy is evident in the energy landscape, where renewable power capacity has surged to 5.69 million kilowatts, 2 times higher than in 2021, now accounting for 29 percent of the city's total capacity. Hohhot is constructing a multi-tiered clean energy hub, including wind, solar, pumped storage, and hydrogen innovation centers, to establish itself as a leading green power base.

Digital infrastructure is also thriving. As the core node of China's "East Data, West Computing" strategy, Hohhot's total computing power has reached 67,000 petaflops, with 95 percent of this being intelligent computing.

With 1,288 key projects expected this year and 174 billion yuan in planned investment, Hohhot is laying the groundwork for sustained, innovation-led, high-quality development.
