According to the Hohhot bureau of science and technology, 20 projects from the city's 19 local enterprises have recently been awarded a total of 15.8 million yuan ($2.2 million) in special funding under the central government's guidance fund for regional science and technology development, allocated by the Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

The funded projects in the city include five for regional innovation system development, one for the construction of a science and technology innovation base, and 14 for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.

These projects focus on key industries such as future food, artificial intelligence, biomedicine, and electronic information. They are expected to leverage an additional 19.83 million yuan in enterprise investment and involve over 30 collaborating organizations from within and outside the autonomous region. The initiatives aim to accelerate the application of advanced, practical, and shared core technologies, supporting Hohhot's industrial transformation and upgrading.

In recent years, Hohhot has connected with major innovation hubs like the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the Yangtze River Delta, developing a model of "off-site R&D + local transformation" to foster scientific and technological breakthroughs.

The city has made significant progress through national-level collaboration. The Hohhot Innovation Center, co-established with Haidian district under the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei National Technology Innovation Center, has facilitated work on 22 frontier technology projects, including 11 supported by key national R&D programs on disruptive technologies.

Hohhot has also co-founded the Inner Mongolia Research Institute with Shandong University, signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement with Inner Mongolia University, and formed close research-industry collaboration mechanisms with institutions such as Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Xi'an Jiaotong University.

Hohhot currently hosts more than 1,000 innovation platforms, including 617 at or above the autonomous region level. The city has attracted 39 academicians and 216 research teams, while forging partnerships with 131 universities and research institutes outside the region. The number of overseas R&D centers has increased to 15.
