Hohhot powers national green energy bases
Since the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), Hohhot has been implementing the national energy strategy, enhancing energy infrastructure, advancing the development and efficient utilization of new energy, and focusing on developing an important national energy and strategic resource base.

In the Togtoh Economic Development Zone, the Inner Mongolia Datang International Hohhot Aluminum and Electricity Co has implemented a renewable energy replacement project. This project, consisting of 610,000 photovoltaic panels, provides green electricity for aluminum electrolysis production, supplying 700 million kWh of clean electricity annually and reducing carbon emissions by 470,000 metric tons.
Hohhot achieves real-time, citywide monitoring of wind farms and photovoltaic stations through the New Energy Smart Operation Center. It supplies 760 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity to multiple data centers annually.
By the end of June 2025, Hohhot's total installed power capacity reached 20.96 million kilowatts, with new and renewable energy accounting for 39.58 percent of the total, representing a 2.45-fold increase from the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25). The total installed power capacity of the city reached 21.38 million kW, promoting high-quality growth of industrial clusters.
Hohhot has established a new energy industry ecosystem alliance, promoting projects involving hydrogen production through water electrolysis, alcohol-hydrogen fuels, and new energy storage. It has also established a green electricity and green certificate trading service agency, pioneering services for the trading of green certificates.
The development of new energy in Hohhot injects green momentum into high-quality development, and the city will continue to progress on the path of building a significant national energy and strategic resource base.
