Hohhot's equipment manufacturing industry enters new development track
Hohhot has advanced its equipment manufacturing industry through a strategy focused on "high-end, intelligent and green" development. By 2025, its modern equipment manufacturing industry cluster is expected to exceed 10 billion yuan ($1.41 billion) in output, with the contribution rate of core sectors exceeding 60 percent.
Hohhot focuses on the top of the industrial chain, with companies like Dongfang Electric Co developing high-end equipment that breaks industry records and meets the needs of new energy bases. Zhongyi Low-Altitude Technology Co's plant protection unmanned aerial vehicles have also become a significant achievement in the low-altitude economy. Dongfang Electric collaborates with local research forces like the Sixth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Industry Co, integrating its wind power equipment into the aerospace economic development zone's "rocket engine supporting industry" system.

Shuangjie Saidu Electric Co's digital workshops have become a benchmark for industrial transformation, improving efficiency through intelligent transformation. Hohhot has included industrial digital transformation as a key task in its "six major industry clusters", implementing 302 advanced manufacturing projects in 2025 with an annual investment of 44.2 billion yuan and helping companies build intelligent systems. Hohhot also conducts large-scale equipment renewal projects, strengthening investment in industrial technological transformation.
Companies like Zhengnai Electric Co practice ecological principles through green production, enhancing manufacturing efficiency. Hohhot has established 31 national green factories and two green-supply-chain management enterprises, promoting 50 energy-saving technology upgrade projects and 19 water-saving technology upgrade projects, while guiding companies in energy-saving efforts.
Hohhot has employed a "comprehensive layout, key breakthroughs" strategy to create an industrial system centered on key industrial parks. With policy support and deepened collaboration between enterprises and universities, the number of equipment manufacturing companies continues to grow, forming a cluster revolving around three key industries–power equipment, aerospace support, and new energy equipment.
