New materials industry boosts Hohhot's development
During the "14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25)" period, the new materials industry cluster in the new energy industrial park of the Hohhot Jinshan High-Tech Development Zone, represented by carbon-based and silicon-based materials, has promoted the development of Hohhot.
Inner Mongolia Zhongqixin Materials Co, in collaboration with Peking University, has established a joint laboratory that has produced single-crystal diamond substrate materials in 15×15 mm and 20×25 mm sizes, with the first batch of orders already delivered. These single-crystal diamond substrates, characterized by being smaller, faster, more efficient, and more reliable, are seen as key materials that could trigger a new wave of technological innovation in the semiconductor industry.
The team expects the first 300 pieces of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) equipment to be put into production by January 2026, with the goal of continuously reducing costs and improving quality through mass production, ensuring their products not only meet domestic demand but are also highly competitive internationally.
The industrial system and full-chain industrial clusters of Hohhot's "six major industry clusters" have accounted for over 90 percent of the total industrial output value.
In the silicon-based materials sector, Hohhot has established a complete photovoltaic industry chain.
In the field of high-end electronic materials, the annual production capacities of electronic-grade single-crystal silicon and polycrystalline silicon respectively account for 30 percent and 60 percent of the national total.
In the semiconductor materials sector, Hohhot has introduced Zhongqixin Co's diamond material projects and established key supporting industries such as silicon carbide materials.
In the sapphire materials sector, Hohhot has reached an annual production capacity of 80 million millimeter-level sapphire crystals.
