Hohhot achieves record-high revenue during New Year holiday
Hohhot welcomed a total of 1.71 million domestic visits during the 2026 New Year holiday, generating 1.1 billion yuan ($157.51 million) in tourism expenditures.
The number of ticket bookings for Hohhot's attractions saw a substantial year-on-year increase of 636.7 percent compared to 2025 New Year, with spending surging by 820.8 percent. The number of inbound tourists rose by 489.6 percent year-on-year, and inbound tourism spending increased by 887.1 percent. Hohhot ranked first in tourist spending within Inner Mongolia autonomous region and climbed to 49th nationwide.
Various cultural and creative products and snacks in Hohhot saw a boom in sales, and many local shops set new sales records that evening. For the New Year's Eve event, the city's bureau of commerce arranged for major supermarkets and other market entities to conduct over a hundred consumption promotion activities under four categories – Policy Benefits for the People, Joyful New Year Shopping, Food Benefits for the New Year, and Integration of Business and Tourism, with sales increasing by more than 15 percent year-on-year.
Hohhot's consumption feast demonstrated the powerful synergy of product innovation, business upgrades, and policy support.
