Hohhot presents impressive 2025 business performance
Hohhot hosted over 300 consumer promotion events throughout 2025 and issued eight batches of consumer vouchers, boosting consumption by nearly 4 billion yuan ($574.8 million). The implementation of a trade-in policy for consumer goods further stimulated consumption growth by 13.5 billion yuan.
Hohhot was selected as a pilot city for the modern commerce and trade circulation system in July and was recognized as a pilot city for new consumer formats, models, and scenarios in November.
Hohhot made its debut on the Top 100 Chinese Foreign Trade Cities list in October 2025. From January to November, the city's total import and export of goods increased by 18.1 percent year-on-year, with 463 active foreign trade enterprises. The trade structure continued to be optimized, with processing trade accounting for 33 percent of total trade.
Hohhot launched seven new logistical routes bringing the total to 19, and dispatched 150 China-Europe freight trains throughout 2025. The city also implemented a departure tax refund policy starting Nov 1.
Hohhot's online retail sales remained the highest in the region, accounting for over 50 percent of the total. The city also hosted the fifth China-Mongolia Expo and other key exhibitions. Last year, Hohhot hosted 55 exhibitions, with 27,000 participating enterprises and about 700,000 visits.
Looking to 2026, Hohhot plans to continue expanding its openness and regional cooperation, and deepening cooperation with regions such as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei.
