A 500kV substation located in Yangkou town, Rudong county, Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, is scheduled to begin operating by the end of September this year.

A team from State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Co Ltd was stationed at the 500kV Jineng substation on Aug 17 to prepare for the operation of the facility.

In recent years, the new energy industry in Nantong's coastal areas has been developing rapidly. As offshore wind power plants in Rudong begin operating in succession, the county needs an artery to meet the demand of transporting clean energy.

The Jineng substation is the seventh 500kV substation in Nantong and the 70th in Jiangsu. It is also the first 500kV substation to access offshore flexible direct current (DC) and the first indoor gas insulated substation in the province.

As an important part of the energy transport project, the 500kV Jineng transmission and transformation project is installed with two 1,000-megavolt-ampere main transformers and has 39.5 kilometers of 500kV lines to connect the Jineng and Fuhai substations.

After the 700-kilometer transport artery is completed, the send-out capacity of offshore wind power in Jiangsu's coastal areas is expected to increase by approximately 6.4 million kilowatts, which should reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 17.6 million tons and emissions of nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, and other pollutants by 318,000 tons.
