Tourists flock to Rudong for blueberry picking

Updated: 2024-05-07

Picking season has begun at a blueberry orchard in Yinquan village, Rudong county in Nantong, Jiangsu province, attracting numerous visitors.

The orchard spans 36 mu (2.4 hectares) and employs greenhouse pot planting techniques to control the water quality, humidity, and temperature for optimal blueberry growth. This method not only allows for staggered market availability but also extends the picking season until mid-June.

"It's peak season now, and both picking and sales are booming, especially on weekends when many families come together to pick," said Zhu Fengbing, the orchard's manager.

Currently, the blueberry orchard receives hundreds of visitors each day on weekends, with daily sales from picking alone reaching an average of 15,000 yuan ($2,076). Additionally, there is a considerable number of bulk purchases from customers in Tongzhou district and other areas.
