Haimen fencer wins silver at Barcelona Women's Epee World Cup
Female fencer Shi Yuexin, along with her teammates, claimed the silver medal on Feb 10 in the women's epee team event at the 2024/2025 Barcelona Women's Epee World Cup.
The Barcelona Women's Epee World Cup continued for three days and included both individual and team events. The Chinese women's epee team sent 12 athletes to compete in the individual competition, including Shi and another Nantong fencer, Xu Nuo. Based on their performance and form during the individual matches, the coach selected four athletes to participate in the team event, which took place on Feb 9. Shi, along with teammates Mo Tinglin, Tang Junyao, and Yu Sihan, secured a spot in the team competition.
In the team event, 29 teams participated. The Chinese team dominated the first three rounds, defeating Lithuania 45-23, Romania 45-29, and the United States 45-34, securing a place in the semifinals. In the semifinals, China triumphed over the powerhouse South Korean team with a 45-26 victory. In the final, the Chinese team faced Italy, the Olympic team champions. Despite a strong performance, China scored 37-45 and finished in second place, earning the silver medal.
The Barcelona World Cup is a key event in the 2024/2025 season and is one of the most significant competitions in women's epee fencing.
