Two patents for invention, developed by two companies in Huangshan city of East China's Anhui province, took home honors at the 23rd China Patent Awards that were announced on July 26.

The event is the country's top recognition for patents and has been organized by the China National Intellectual Property Administration, or CNIPA, and the World Intellectual Property Organization, or WIPO, since 1989.

Their triumph was seen as a breakthrough in the city, for it was the first time for Huangshan-based companies to scoop up prizes.

The victorious patents were an easy-to-unseal sealing film that boasts high transparency and a high barrier and its production process – designed by Huangshan Novel Co Ltd – and a flame retardant epoxy resin, whose preparations method was designed by Huangshan Tianma New Material Technology Co Ltd.

In recent years, Huangshan city has continued to optimize its business environment in the field of intellectual property, to promote the high-quality development of the IP industry. It has also boosted its protection of intellectual property rights, or IPR.

Initiatives have been rolled out in Huangshan to improve the creation of high-value patents, such as establishing special work teams for the creation, protection and application of IPR. A patents navigation base of the bio-medicine and health industry in the city was approved as a key project of the provincial bureau in May.

To better utilize IPR, the local government has deepened bank-enterprise cooperation and guided businesses on how to finance themselves through their IPR, by leveraging their  trademarks and patents as collateral. The city has completed 25 patent pledge loans, raising more than 130 million yuan ($19.25 million) and has completed five trademark right pledge loans with financing of 32 million yuan.

Moreover, Huangshan has established a social supervision team, which has taken the lead in the province. It has launched four special enforcement actions to crack down on IPR infringements and counterfeits, abnormal patent applications and malicious trademark registrations.
