Cultural tourism industry
The tourism resources in Huangshan city, which is located Anhui province, are second to none in China. During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period, it received 287 million domestic tourists and 10.52 million international tourists. Tourism revenue hit 254.76 billion yuan ($37.99 billion) and foreign exchange reached $3.34 billion. The added value of the tourism industry accounted for 15.1 percent of the city in 2020 and has become a pillar industry. Last year, Huangshan received 63.17 million tourists, up 44 percent year-on-year. Total tourism revenue came in at 53.8 billion yuan, up 45 percent on the previous year and the growth rate was far higher than the national average. The annual numbers of visits and total annual revenue recovered to 85 percent and 81 percent, respectively, of that before the COVID-19 epidemic.
