Huizhou sesame seed cake

chinadaily.com.cn| Updated: November 1, 2022

Huizhou sesame seed cake is one of the most popular snacks in Huangshan city, Anhui province.

It tastes deliciously crispy on the outside and the fillings give off a wonderful aroma.

Due to the long baking time, most of the water in the cake evaporates. Once it gets damp, you can bake it again and it still tastes crispy.

Because it can be stored for a long time and is easy-to-carry, it was one of the three treasures of Huizhou merchants on business trips. The Huizhou merchants owned almost half of China's wealth between the late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Highly favored by Huizhou merchants, the seed cake was often presented as gifts to business friends and guests from all over the world.
