If you are a fan of Chinese food, you may have heard of stinky mandarin fish – something of a "rebel" dish known for its pungent odor in Anhui cuisine.
To overcome the recent shortage of mandarin fish supplies, Huangshan district in Huangshan city, Anhui province invested 1.2 million yuan ($174,117.48) in April last year to develop a recirculating aquaculture system spanning 1,300 square meters.
These are land-based facilities that reuse water by cycling it through a filtration system so it can be reused. The highly sustainable nature of these operations reduces the amount of water and space needed for aquaculture.

Under the guidance of technicians and staff members, the survival rate of mandarin fish in the aquaculture system now exceeds 90 percent, with nearly 5,000 kilograms harvested on Feb 16.
After the success of the demonstration project, it will be further expanded to strive for an annual output of more than 25,000 kilograms.

Moreover, Huangshan Modern Agricultural Demonstration Zone and Anhui Wanfeng Changneng Investment Co Ltd signed a framework agreement for a PV & intelligent agriculture project in December. They plan to invest 80 million yuan to build a high-density aquaculture base for mandarin fish.
