Huangshan leads Anhui in protection of traditional villages

Huangshan city in Anhui province has achieved fruitful results in terms of protecting and making use of its traditional villages in recent years.

To date, some 271 villages have been added to the list of Traditional Chinese Villages, accounting for 3.79 percent of the total in China and ranking second among the country's prefecture-level cities.

Moreover, 492 villages in Huangshan city were included in the provincial list for protecting traditional villages, ranking it first in Anhui. Shexian county ranked first in Anhui with 240 provincial traditional villages.

Huangshan city has taken pains to revitalize these traditional villages, including leveraging social capital of 1.41 billion yuan ($202.95 million), developing cultural and creative industries, and integrating cultural and tourism industries.

Intangible culture heritage items and agricultural products have also been promoted to boost the development of local traditional villages.

On Feb 15-18, an activity aimed at exploring the heritage and protection of ancient villages was held in Huangshan city. Plans are afoot for the city to promote the protection and use of traditional villages in order to contribute to residents' common prosperity.
