Huangshan city in Anhui province recently issued the 2023 Tea Industry Quality Improvement Work Plan to boost the high-quality development of its tea industry.

The work plan focuses on three key areas, namely enterprises shouldering primary responsibility, strengthening the supervision and management and enhancing high-quality development of the local tea industry.

According to the work plan, tea production enterprises are encouraged to increase tea varieties, improve tea quality and cultivate tea brands to further improve brand visibility and influence.

Efforts are also being made to create high-quality tea industry clusters in the Yangtze River Delta region, which includes cooperating with key tea-production cities such as Hangzhou in East China's Zhejiang province and Lu'an in Anhui province.

To enhance the competitiveness of small and medium-sized tea enterprises, Huangshan city plans to strive to become a provincial demonstration area for improving tea quality and fostering brands for green agricultural products and services.

In 2022, Huangshan city's tea industry had a total output of 45,000 metric tons, up 4.7 percent year-on-year, and amounted to 4.6 billion yuan ($660.13 million) in revenue, a year-on-year increase of 7 percent and first in the province.

Huangshan city also plans to establish a food quality and safety integrity system and cultivate more than two enterprises that meet food safety requirements and are granted provincial certification this year.
