The countdown to the highly anticipated 2023 Huangshan Marathon has begun, with runners and locals alike eagerly awaiting the event.

This year, the marathon is themed on "Meeting the World, Running through Huangshan" and it's scheduled to take place on Oct 29 at the foot of Huangshan Mountain in East China's Anhui province.

The starting point will be Huangshan District Government Square and participants will traverse the city, following the scenic Xuanyuan Avenue and Beihai Road, before reaching Taiping Lake – the largest man-made lake in the province.

The course will then take the runners through the Puxi River Leisure and Tourism Scenic Area, leading to Furong Valley – a canyon in the Huangshan Mountain scenic area.

The marathon concludes at the north gate of the Huangshan Mountain scenic area – with the entire route crossing the city center and natural scenic areas, creating a transition from the modern city to idyllic mountain landscapes.

According to Huangshan District Cultural, Tourism and Sports Bureau official Chen Yan, four of Huangshan's 4A-rated scenic areas – including Taiping Lake and Fuyong Valley – will provide special discounts and even free admission for marathon participants from Oct 30 to Nov 5.

The goal is to help boost both the sports and tourism industries in the city.

"We've already received loads of inquiries about tourism, with many participants and their families gearing up to visit our beautiful region for the marathon," she added.
