Huangshan city holds Double Ninth Festival celebrations

Huangshan city – located in East China's Anhui province – came alive with the vibrant celebrations of the Double Ninth Festival on Oct 23.

The Double Ninth Festival, also known as the Chongyang Festival, is a traditional affair celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth month in the Chinese lunar calendar.

The number nine is considered yang – or masculine – and is associated with positive energy and good fortune in Chinese culture. As a result, the festival has become an occasion to ward off potential misfortune and celebrate longevity in various regions of the country.

Beian village – located in Shexian county, administered by Huangshan city – held a special event this year themed on Embracing the Late Sunset, Rekindling Sweet Moments.

During the festivities, two locals aged over 95 were granted the title of Stars of Longevity. In addition, five couples – who have shared more than half a century of marital bliss – were recognized as the Most Beautiful Families.

Beian village – with its thousand-year history – is home to over 3,000 residents. Most notably, it boasts 93 individuals aged 80 and above, including 19 aged 90 and above. Moreover, an impressive 52 couples have celebrated over 50 years of wedded bliss.

This charming village is now proudly known as a haven of longevity in southern Anhui province.
