The 2023 Huangshan Marathon was held on Oct 29 – with the series of events surrounding it running through to Nov 5 – in Huangshan city, located in East China's Anhui province.

With its theme of "Meeting the World, Running through Huangshan", this year's marathon attracted 12,000 participants – including 26 individuals from 14 different countries such as Germany, France and the United States.

Divina Jepkogei from Kenya was victorious in the women's marathon category, winning in a brisk time of 2 hours, 54 minutes and 51 seconds.

To achieve a 100 percent green energy supply, the organizers went the extra mile by sourcing green electricity to power the entire event.

They obtained 100 green certificates from a new energy generation project in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region. The move was expected to reduce the event's carbon dioxide emissions by 87,190 kilograms.

A green certificate – often referred to as an "electronic identity card" for green electricity – represents a unit of renewable energy production, typically equivalent to 1,000 kilowatt-hours.

Additionally, the 2023 Huangshan Marathon provided thoughtful services. For instance, the course featured 23 strategically placed aid stations that supplied essential items like energy drinks, to ensure participants remained hydrated and energized throughout the race.

Moreover, the entire course was equipped with 20 medical rescue units, 22 medical stations and 40 medical personnel who accompanied the runners throughout the race, offering vital support to ensure their well-being.
