Ancient water system of Hongcun village ingenious to serve in monsoon season

The village's water system, designed in the shape of an ox, cleverly harnesses the natural terrain to channel water into the village. This ingenious layout not only provides residents with a reliable water supply but also ensures ample water for fire emergencies. The network efficiently directs rainwater into key reservoirs like the village's south lake and moon pond, preventing flooding.

Water channels meander through the village, passing in front of every household. These channels not only facilitate daily life but also help regulate temperature and purify the air. During heavy rains, they act as natural drainage, swiftly removing excess water and safeguarding the village.

The south lake and the artificial moon pond, the primary reservoirs, collect rainwater, easing the pressure on downstream rivers. Their serene waters, reflecting the surrounding landscape, create picturesque scenes.
