On Dec 10, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development issued a document on Dec 10 initiating pilot projects for the preservation and utilization of historical buildings.
Huangshan city's Shexian county was chosen as one of the eight pilot cities and counties nationwide and was the only one in East China's Anhui province.
Known as one of China's best-preserved ancient towns and the birthplace of local Huizhou culture, Shexian ancient city exudes the charms of Huizhou-style architecture with its blue bricks, black tiles and white walls, captivating everyone who visits it.
The inclusion of Shexian county in the historic building preservation and utilization pilot program not only recognizes the county's efforts in safeguarding its cultural heritage, but also heralds a new chapter in the inheritance and utilization of its historical culture.
Over the course of the two-year pilot program, Shexian is endeavoring to pioneer innovative technical standards, policy measures and to implement strategies for the preservation and utilization of historical buildings.
The goal is to accumulate a set of replicable and scalable best practice, which can serve as a foundation for enhancing national laws and regulations, as well as establish policy standards in the field of historic preservation.
