As a demonstration area for the development of Fujian's digital economy, Xiamen has in recent years beefed up efforts to promote the integration of the digital and the real economies with the aim of accelerating its pace of industrial digitization.

Official data shows that Xiamen's economic value reached 365 billion yuan ($56.21 billion) in 2020, accounting for 57 percent of the city's total GDP. The city also received a number of national honors for its digital economy development, such as the Chinese Software City, the National Xinhuo Innovation Base.

The city is currently seizing the opportunities of industrial digitization and digital industrialization and promoting the transformation and upgrading of its real economy in five major areas - digital agriculture, intelligent manufacturing, smart city construction, and smart marine industry.

Xiamen has also witnessed a growth in its intelligent manufacturing industry. Statistics show that by the end of 2020, Xiamen housed 2,282 national-level high-tech enterprises, including 965 that are involved in the field of electronic information industry.

The city's booming digital economy has helped the development of new forms and models of businesses. A number of high-quality projects such as ByteDance and JD Digits have settled in Xiamen, and the night and livestreaming economies are developing rapidly.

Efforts have also been made to facilitate the construction of a "digital government" and a comprehensive management system.

Xiamen has accelerated its smart city construction, which has injected new impetus into their high-quality economic development.
