The coastal city of Xiamen in East China's Fujian province has been ramping up efforts to promote the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements in the marine industry in an effort to accelerate the industry's development, according to news released by the city's marine development bureau.

The city also established an entrepreneurship and innovation base for the marine industry in 2016 and has cultivated a number of maker spaces and enterprises that have significantly boosted the city's marine economy.

"The base has competitive advantages in marine resources, and it has rolled out favorable policies for the marine industry, offering us a great platform for scientific research and development involving the marine industry," said Cao Lingpi, director of an entrepreneurship and innovation team of Xiamen University.

The base offers services related to displays and exhibitions, trade and investment matchmaking, the application of innovations, the commercialization of scientific and research findings, and mass entrepreneurship and innovation.

In recent years, Xiamen's marine industry has witnessed a boom, with the production value of marine pharmaceuticals and biological products increasing by 45.3 percent year-on-year.
