共乐园01.jpg

Gongleyuan was a private park built by Tang Shaoyi (Tong Shao Yi) (1862-1938), a politician and the first Prime Minister of the Republic of China at the end of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911). Constructed in 1910, the park covers 340,000 sq m of exotic Asian flora, and is a cultural relics protection unit of Guangdong Province. It maintains relics from many historical figures including Sun Yat-sen and the late Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang (1894-1961), who planted a still-standing and now towering lemon eucalyptus there.
