You get chance to say what makes Zhuhai so special

updated : 2017-07-24

A two-month effort was initiated on July 20 to select the 10 most representative culture-related calling cards of the city. Long Guangyan, a member of the Standing Committee of CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee and director of the Publicity Department, is heading the selection organizing committee.

The committee's first meeting was held at the Zhuhai Literature & Art Mansion on East Jiuzhou Avenue. Sponsored by the Publicity Department of CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee and Zhuhai Federation of Social Science Circles, the intent is to promote almost anything culturally relevant that contains high value and strong impact.

Themed Concentrating the Cultural Essence & Polishing the Cultural Card, the activity will be conducted over several stages until the end of September. First comes nominations and recommendations by residents or tourists. What follows is preliminary selection of 30 entries by an expert panel, and then screening of ten each by the public and panel.

Finally, the organizing committee will submit the results to the organizing committee for Guangdong City Cultural Cards and will include them in a newly published memorial album. The selections will be promoted via print, television, and electronic media.

The applications and the standards have been outlined in accordance with selection principals and criteria of the Guangdong Federation of Social Science Circles.

The range includes tourism resources covering food, specialties, attractions, scenic spots, and landscapes; regional landmarks such as iconic place names, areas, and buildings; role models who have made contributions in history; economic industries with cultural connotations; deeds and events, including major historical happenings, large-scale shows, and honorable lifestyles; relics and heritages that consist of antiques, folklores, intangible cultural heritages, historic sites, ruins, and former residences; culture and art which refer to schools or achievements in calligraphy, fine arts, literature, and folk arts with wide influence.

The criteria highlights monuments containing local cultural resources and uniqueness from any others, and cultural influence representing regional achievements and manifesting cultural soft strength and spiritual inspiration.

Meanwhile, sustained transmissibility is stressed, stipulating that a good cultural brand is to endure in time and space while widely promoting itself to raise the city's profile, reputation, and image. Applications are also required to have strong image strengths that represent cultural soft power and reflect spiritual pursuit and the conduct of local people. Whether it pushes forward the transformation and upgrade of local industries is also factored in.

At present, the event is in the nomination and recommendation stage. Locals, as in units or individually, as well as visitors can send recommendation materials to zhwhmp@163.com along with reasons for the recommendation and contact information. There is no limit on the items in single application, and the deadline is August 6.
