Superlative musicians to join young musical talents

updated : 2017-08-25

Finalists in the 2nd Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians will be accompanied by three dozen returning Salzburg Chamber Soloists from Sept 12 to 24.

Salzburg Chamber Soloists was founded in 1979 by pianist Luz Leskowitz. They are famous for specializing in the works of Mozart and are on par with Camerata Salzburg -- the twin orchestra stars of Mozart's hometown in Austria.

The ensemble gathers outstanding young soloists and chamber musicians from European countries. The all-star band earned its reputation by granting each member freedom to perform orchestral chamber music. They also have opportunities to make innovative and vital creations.

Instrumentalists include seven stringed performers -- two pianists, two violists, two cellists, and a double bassist. They are all leaders in premiere European orchestras or teachers at prestigious music schools.

Unique and pure in style, their works focus on classical composers such as Franz Joseph Haydn, Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Lucio Vivaldi, and other Baroque composers.

They have performed at Wigmore Hall in London, Musikverein Wien in Vienna, Salle Gaveau in Paris, and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Salzburg Chamber Soloists used to be a regular orchestra at the concert hall in Salzburg Castle, which had recorded Mozart's performances. Instructed by Luz Leskowitz, it holds more than 250 concerts annually -- the largest such catena in the world. It has a long-term cooperation with conductors and soloists such as Mischa Maisky, Michel Dalberto, Rodolfo Bonucci, and Jean-Bernard Pommier.

The Mozart Competition is a top-class classical instrumentalist contest for world talents under 23 years old. It is to take place at Huafa & CPAA Grand Theatre, which is part of the Zhuhai International Convention & Exhibition Center in Shizimen.
