Zhuhai commits to better hospitals for longer lives

updated : 2017-09-22

The just-issued 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) for Zhuhai Hygiene & Health lays out 26 basic medical infrastructure projects to support a population life expectancy of 83 years by 2020.

Before that, by 2018, Zhuhai will have taken the lead in establishing a medical and health system with improved services accessible to all. By then, a hierarchical treatment system will be capable of delivering outstanding health care in most fields.

The health of Zhuhai citizens is expected to improve significantly; the main health indicators coming close to those of developed countries by 2018. And then, by 2020 a Health City and Hygiene City will exist, with main health indicators on a par with any other.

Zhuhai's plans for health and hygiene see improvements in the overall strength of medical treatment and public health. There also will be widespread basic medical care in both urban and rural areas. As a National Health City and one of advanced hygienic development, Zhuhai will be a model for other Guangdong municipalities and regions.

In addition, requirements for the city's six tertiary hospitals during that period include being rated at the top Grade III Class A level. Notably, Zhuhai People's (Renmin) Hospital and the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University should have edged into the top 30 of the province's high-level hospitals. The plan is to establish advanced health technology and medical resources, according to a government official.

Meanwhile, the city will allocate more medical and health resources to the West Wing. Strategic projects include the Zhuhai Western Medical Center (Sixth People's Hospital), Phase II of Jinwan Central Hospital of Guangdong Province, Affiliated Hospital of Jilin University, Zhuhai People's Hospital Wanshan Island, an island emergency medical rescue center, the Doumen District Qiaoli TCM (Zhuhai Second TCM), Pingsha (Zhuhai Fifth People's), and Guangdong Huasheng Tumor hospitals.

The plan calls for central locations for Zhuhai Women's & Children's Hospital and Zhuhai Center for Chronic Disease Control. Moreover, Hengqin international cooperative hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University Hengqin, and a city emergency medical services center should be in place. Furthermore, the government is required to upgrade and refurbish the Second People's Hospital of Xiangzhou District in order to provide better health services.
