Smooth crossings attributed to new facilities, methods

updated : 2017-10-10

Border checkpoints registered a record 2.87 million traveler crossings and 70,500 vehicles and vessels during the first seven days of the Oct 1 National Day holiday. Procedures were efficient due to the efforts of various departments and improved inspection service.

The number walking across the border increased by 1.01 percent year-on-year while the amount of vehicles and vessels was down by 5.08 percent, according to official statistics.

To ensure a safe and swift crossing during the travel peak, the port authority was joined by the inspection department to speed up examinations by adjusting the arrangement of channels. Measures were coordinated with the checkpoints' comprehensive management offices, public security and traffic management departments, and armed police.

Under the measures, the Zhuhai General Station of Exit-Entry Frontier Inspection opened 23 automated inspection passages at Gongbei Port on Oct 1.

The additional channels include three in the main arrival hall, 11 serving the new arrival hall, and nine in the new departure hall.

Self-help clearance channels were built with a pleasant appearance and a compact equipment layout for efficient space utilization. According to an officer, the machine uses a new face-checking module allowing adjustments for higher contrast. A dedicated dual-lens camera adapts to passengers of varying heights.

At present, Gongbei Port has 191 such channels. The percentage of daily use of self-help channels was expected to exceed 71.4, according to the inspection department.

In addition, Gongbei Customs achieved an import and export cargo volume of 448,510 tons, and year-on-year growth of 53.25 percent; the clearance service was tailored to reflect corporate activities learned about in advance.
