The International Communication Conference on Green & Low-Carbon Development Standardization was held in Hengqin New Area on Oct 12 and 13. This is part of a series of activities in China to celebrate the World Standards Day 2017 on Oct 14 and a prelude to the decennial Zhuhai standardization strategy.
Themed "Sharing an Eco-city With Green & Low-Carbon Development," the conference drew upon foreign experience while sharing successful cases and policies in China. Academic opinions and advanced practices were also discussed to forge a green future.
Highlighted were energy conservation, water-saving, low-carbon use, greening, and sustainable development. More than 50 officials from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), UN Environment Program, Collaborative Labeling & Appliance Standards Program, Tongji University, and China National Institute of Standardization (CNIS) addressed policymaking, criterion interpretation, technological development, global trends, and typical cases.

Among the attendees were officials from the National Development & Reform Commission, Ministry of Water Resources, Standardization Administration of the PRC, and Zhuhai Municipal Government as well as more than 400 experts, scholars, and entrepreneurs from home and abroad.
After 10 years of building standardization, Zhuhai has formed a healthy work pattern guided by the government, driven by the market, and participated in by the public. An advanced standardization system integrating international, national, industrial, and local agencies, and criteria covering industry, agriculture, the service sector, social administration, and public services has also been established to help Zhuhai realize leapfrog development.
Under the concept of standardization, Zhuhai's air quality has ranked among the top 10 in China for several consecutive years. By integrating standardization with ecological civilization, the city has taken the lead in ecological civilization and become a benchmark in China. It has won honors as a National Environmental Protection Exemplary City, National Ecological Garden City, National Water Conservation City, National Pilot Sponge City, and a pilot city of the Europe-China Eco-Cities Link (EC-LINK) Project. Recently, Zhuhai was also placed on the preliminary list of Demonstration Cities & Counties of China Ecological Civilization Construction.
