Zhuhai embraces eight pioneering overseas projects

updated : 2017-12-12

A maximum subsidy of up to 1 million yuan ($151,000) will be granted toward each of eight overseas entrepreneurial and innovative projects that reached preliminary cooperation agreements at the Dec 8-10 Zhuhai International Students Festival & 2017 Overseas Students Entrepreneurship Week.

Spotlighted were 39 projects covering, among other fields, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, biomedicine, medical apparatus and instruments, intelligent manufacture, Internet+, energy conservation, environmental protection, and new materials.

The projects came from 11 developed countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and France, and were screened out from more than 200 applicants from around the globe.

They were given extra exposure at a dedicated exhibition hall at the Zhuhai International Convention & Exhibition Center in Shizimen Central Business District on Dec 9. There, overseas experts participated in a brand investment tour targeting southern Guangdong. They interacted with returnees who want to start their own businesses or craft innovations in Zhuhai.

Project leaders also gave presentations in their respective categories at a roadshow session to attract attending venture capitalists and financial experts.

A robotic three-dimensional path intelligent identification and tracking system garnered attention. It was developed by Chen Haiping, chief engineer at Procter & Gamble, an American multi-national consumer goods corporation. Already industrialized in the US, the project was promoted for wider success on the Chinese mainland, especially in Zhuhai.

Deemed equally promising was a wastewater treatment technology using membrane bioreactor system pioneered by Jiang Yiming, PhD candidate at the GSF-National Research Center for Environment & Health/Technische Universität München in Germany. It is believed to enjoy a wide application range in environmental protection with broad market prospects.

The past three international student festivals attracted 17 businesses to locate in Zhuhai, according to the organization committee office. The event now introduces high-quality resources and injects projects, innovative youth talents, and advisers into the local skills repository.
